Overview:

Writing

Essays, stories, everything text is filtered through the lens of the lyric.
Some creative lineage: Toni Morrison, Anne Carson, Mia Couto, An Duplan, Anne Boyer, etc.

So far, it is through literature I have gotten the most ins with in the past. It tracks since it is a practice I've had for the longest.

Art writing might be a viable stream of income but I don't have the energy or desire to seek it out, especially since I don't want to be an “art writer or critic.”
Opportunities/offer to reach me, that’s enough.

Experiential:

I blend sound, moving image, performance, multi-media installations generally to create an experience. The lyric, or what i envision as a fragmentary/lyrical cohesion also plays in here.
Some creative lineage: Basquiat, Ja'tovia Gary, Terrence Nance, Ntozake Shange, a handful of afro-beats artists, Tyler the Creator, Blondell Cummings.

✩ Experiential art production is a stronger pathway for creative collaboration.

I reckon most of these opportunities, they(granters & such) always want to see previous work they can trust you with money with. But how will I make what I want to make without money?

I have begun to explore a community funded model, but this is a long-term and slower investment as I don't have the clout or network that would make this as successful as it can.

I am proud of earlier work, and my newer directions excite me. I’d like to first review/focus on For Broken Bois, and I have attached recent applications*:

  Nysca 2025 Application
Cue Art Foundation Solo Show Proposal.

Creative Portfolio /Selected Works.

*I can share specific work samples submitted if you want.

Other than reviews, I want to explore alternative funding pathways as I can’t continue to rely on the mercy (lack of) of institutions.

Please feel free to lead and structure by what works best for you.

Thank you and excited to be in conversation! :)
